Letter: Pete Merrill

I was looking at the latest Waterways Journal and who jumps off the page, but my mentor Pete Merrill!

It was great to read about his family and the great company his family built.

I felt privileged to be part of that family, it was one of the hardest decisions I had to make is when I left his tutelage. MMSI was without doubt some of the best 22 years of my 50-plus years on the river. I was able to travel the world, and learn the business of becoming a professional marine surveyor. I owe him for this, and I thank him for correcting every report, making sure I didn’t screw up and trusting me with being part of that family of marine professionals.
