Pickwick Landing Dam To Get Quake-Proofing

The Nashville Engineer District issued a public notice March 20 that it will perform a seismic upgrade at Pickwick Landing Dam on the Tennessee River. The notice of the improvements was originally issued on June 22, 2017.

On the upstream side, riprap and crushed stone will be placed below the ordinary high-water mark elevation of 414 feet and would displace about 14.7 acres of open water.

On the downstream side, structural fill material (sand, gravel silt and clay) would be placed into wetlands and stream channels on the embankment. One wetland would be completely filled, and another would lose about .1 acres and have temporary impacts to another .1 acres.

The project would require the encapsulation of about 656 linear feet of perennial stream channel: about 130 linear feet of Stream 7 and 526 linear feet of Stream 8. Both streams are man-made and are part of the dam’s toe drain system. Mitigation was provided by purchasing 4.4 wetland mitigation bank credits from the Tennessee Mitigation Fund Bank and 656 stream in-lieu credits from the Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program.
