Obituary: Capt. Dennis Odegard

Capt. Dennis Odegard, 75, of Durand, Wis., died on May 15 after battling lung and brain cancer. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he went to work as a deckhand on the inland rivers, where he rose through the ranks to captain in a 50-year career. He loved his work, his towboat family, telling stories about the river and watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 22 at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi, Wis.
