Stronghold Coatings Introduces Repair Product for Deck Applications
Stronghold Coatings announced the introduction of MM1018, a unique, patented steel-replacement polymeric metal material used to replace steel parts on-site. The material has been tested in bridges, oil rigs and ocean-going vessels; now the company wants to enter the inland waterways market. The company says it provides 100 percent force fit gap compensation for the repair of all types of deck machinery for towboats.
When applied to the baseplates of deck machinery like winches, cranes, capstans, cable laying equipment and more, MM1018 allows the equipment to be repaired and repositioned without having to realign, saving time and money. Unlike steel, the material never rusts.
The company says this high-performance repair product provides 100 percent volume restoration inside the gap between bearing and construction without any machining of back plate or face plate. It combines high compressive and shear strength, excellent vibration damping, and long-term corrosion protection in extreme service conditions (vibration, temperature extremes, etc.), and resists weathering and aging, as well as gasoline, oils, coolants, acids, lye and more.
It is easily applied onsite, even at height, using casting or injection. This allows significant repair-cost savings versus conventional disassembly/rebuild methods. In addition to workboat deck machinery, it is ideal for offshore projects such as drilling rigs and windfarms, and more.
The MM1018 coating was originally developed in Germany for the repair of steel and steel composite bridges, where materials are subject to the highest loads and stresses. More than 1,000 bridges worldwide have been repaired using this technology. The company says it is “ideally suited for use in corrosive saltwater environments like on oil rigs, offshore wind farms, canal water gates, and other corrosive environments.”

MM1018 was developed by Diamant and is manufactured in the U.S. by Stronghold in its centrally located Franklin, Ohio, facilities, which include an extensive testing lab.
