Obituary: Capt. Donald Summers
Capt. Donald H. Summers, 95, of St. Louis, Mo., a former captain for the excursion steamers Admiral and President, died December 26.
Summers served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. Along with a few friends, he built a replica LCVP (Higgins Boat) landing craft that is on display at the World War II museum in New Orleans.
He was a music teacher and played many instruments, with his favorite being the tuba. He played in many Jazz/Dixieland bands in locations like Gaslight Square in St. Louis and the French Quarter in New Orleans.
