Trimble Selected for Military Contract
Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) will provide construction-grade control and survey systems for the U.S. Marine Corps and Army under a five-year IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity) contract.
Trimble will supply GPS base station receivers grade lasers grade control systems and construction design software for the Marine Corps’ and Army’s dozers motorgraders and the Army’s DEUCE (Deployable Universal Combat Earthmover) and scraper equipment. Trimble will also supply GNSS survey systems robotic total stations data controllers and radios Trimble and Spectra Precision® laser levels Nikon autolevels and office software used for surveying to the Marine Corps.
The new equipment purchase will help the U.S. military to collect manage and analyze complex information during survey and construction missions and reduce the exposure of soldiers in hostile conditions. To help the military in this objective Trimble will reduce the volume of heavy equipment and fuel used on projects Steven W. Berglund president and CEO of Trimble said.
III Upgrades ES-3
International Industries Inc. (III) sold an Odom MB-1 upgrade to the ES 3 Shallow Water MultiBeam Echo Sounder to Waterway Surveys and Engineering of Virginia Beach Virginia. The MB-1 from Teledyne Odom Hydrographic Systems shows few changes physically on the ES-3 but an improved data package delivers better results.
EarthCam Upgrades Software
EarthCam offers the new Control Center 7 Software version 7.11 upgrade with tools for construction photography documentation. The software is designed to upload high resolution inspection grade images to building and site plans www.dredgemag.com | IDR ND13 21 and create a visual record of pre-existing and as-built conditions. Its new features include new image management tools for storing and viewing jobsite photos and automated geo-tagged punch lists.
Elastec Offers Surveillance System
After the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill Elastec/American Marine searched for an alternative to traditional aerial surveillance for improved oil spill response operations. Elastec CEO Donnie Wilson found OceanEye™ which can locate the spill assess its dimensions monitor its movement and communicate information instantly to other responders for water or land-based spills.
The oil spill aerial surveillance system developed by Maritime Robotics of Norway is effective by day or night. The high-visibility red balloon made of urethane and ripstop nylon sailcloth is resistant to the elements. The system has a visibility range of about four nautical miles at an altitude of 150 meters which is within FAA regulations. (The balloon can be fl own at an elevation of 150 meters without FAA approval or higher with FAA approval in U.S. waters.) The entire system can be launched or retrieved by just two people and operated by one.
EdgeTech Expands Manufacturing
EdgeTech added more than 7500 square feet to its main office in Massachusetts the second expansion in less than two years. The new space will be used to build commercial off-the-shelf and customized sonar products. The majority of the space will be for engineering and manufacturing and a portion for office personnel.

Tideland Appoints Indian Ocean Agent
Tideland Signal has appointed Seanergy Indian Ocean to represent its range of marine navigation aids in Madagascar and the Indian Ocean. With offices on the island of Ré union and in Toamasina/Tamatve Madagascar Seanergy Indian Ocean will supply and support the Tideland range of products including buoys beacons lanterns and advanced electronic equipment such as racons AIS Tideland’s advanced AIS Viewer (TSD) and remote monitoring systems.
Dominique Thirel Seanergy Indian Ocean general manager said the Nova-65 and the selfcontained Sola Nova-65 model with solar modules and battery are the best choice for conditions in that area.
Kongsberg Supplies New Vessel Equipment
Three shipyards in Asia awarded Kongsberg Maritime a technology contract for offshore vessels. Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Korea and Cosco Shipyard in China have each selected Kongberg’s Full Picture solutions for nine offshore drilling units an accommodation unit a multipurpose construction vessel and four LNG vessels with integrated automation systems. The deliveries include extensive dynamic positioning (DP) automation navigation hydroacoustic positioning and riser management technology.
One of the SHI contracts is for two GustoMSC CJ70 design advanced drilling jackup units which will be equipped with an extensive full picture solution. Kongsberg said this project is particularly important considering the new and growing market for drilling jackup construction vessels in Korea.
For these new contracts Kongsberg Maritime will supply all positioning and automation systems and the new generation riser management systems for the drilling units are designed and delivered by sister company Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies.
WPP Engine for United Dredging Co.
Worldwide Power Products (WPP) a powergeneration equipment provider delivered a rebuilt Caterpillar 3412 Marine Engine to United Dredging Co. enabling the fi rm’s vessel UDC Blue to resume dredging operations. The purchaser a Kingdom of Bahrain-based enterprise specializing in dredging reclamation and stockpiling of sand and aggregate said WPP helped it get the ship back up and into operations within two weeks from the failure date.
United Dredging Co. said it chose the 3412 Marine Engine to directly replace a dredging pump engine that suffered a major bottom-end/ crank failure and left UDC Blue unable to perform its core function.
