Ellicott Reports Half of Sales are Exports

Paul Quinn vice president of Sales for Ellicott Dredges reports that the company has exported more than 10 cutterhead dredges so far this year. Exports account for more than 50 percent of the company’s sales. Ellicott models 370 670 1170 and 1870 were delivered to Southeast Asia Central Asia including Bangladesh; South America including Colombia; and Nigeria. The dredges are being used for a range of applications including navigation dredging sand and mineral mining flood control and land reclamation.

These figures do not include exports by Ellicott sister companies LWT and IMS.

In February U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke visited the Ellicott to promote the Obama Administration’s National Export Initiative which has the goal of doubling U.S. exports in the next five years. Maryland U.S. Congressman John P. Sarbanes accompanied Secretary Locke along with Suresh Kumar Assistant Commerce Secretary and Director General of the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service.

BENTLEY ATTENDED ELLICOTT EVENT

Helen Delich Bentley attended the event held in Ellicott’s manufacturing facility. Bentley is a journalist advisor to the Port of Baltimore and multi-term U.S. Congresswoman- from 1985 to 1995. As a member of the committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries she was (and is) an acknowledged expert on federal maritime policy. Bentley has been a lifelong advocate of the U.S. Merchant Marine.

In June 2006 at the Port of Baltimore’s 300th anniversary celebration Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. re-named the port the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore. She is CEO of Helen Bentley Associates an international trade business and government consultant.
