Trimble Replaces 232 With New SPS351 Marine GPS Receiver
Trimble has announced the new SPS351 as replacement for DSM212/232 GPS units used extensively in the marine industries.
The SPS351 receiver uses RTCM DGPS corrections either broadcast free by beacon stations from SBAS (satellite based augmentation systems) via an external radio or Internet connection from a local reference station.
The new receiver is part of the family of Trimble site positioning system products with common interface connectors and interchangeable accessories. This system approach helps reduce product training and part stocking. For large companies managing multiple sites around the world it increases operational flexibility and reduces the need for knowledge of different systems for different applications through deployment of a common user interface.
Features new to the SPS351 include Ethernet and browser interface providing remote access over the Internet or by cable for data and configuration; integrated IALA beacon capability allowing the use of free MSK beacon correction transmissions without extra receiver or antenna; integrated Bluetooth® wireless technology for cable-free configuration and operation with computer or cell phone
The robust construction and modularity of the Trimble SPS351 receiver delivers installation flexibility via external GPS antenna options as required on marine vessel installations. The receiver can be mounted in a secure environment protected from the weather and theft leaving only the antenna outside. Trimble EVERESTâ„¢ technology improves results in high multi-path environments such as those encountered on construction vessels and port construction sites.
NEW RUGGED ANTENNA FOR DREDGES
Solving problems encountered in tough environments the new Trimble Zephyr 2 Rugged rover antenna is resistant to corrosion cracking around the mount point and leakage due to high vibration.
The new antenna is a broad-frequency GPS antenna intended for marine installations subject to high shock and vibration such as dredges drilling rigs and other marine vessels. The design is taken from the field-proven Trimble MS990 while continuing to provide performance that minimizes multipath offers robust low elevation tracking and sub-millimeter phase center repeatability.
The antenna mounting is offered in two formats: a 5/8-inch thread mounting adaptor or a mast-mounting bracket that can be used in extremely high shock and vibration environments.
The Zephyr 2 Rugged Antenna offers comprehensive support for current and near-future signals including GPS L2C and L5 GLONASS and even Galileo. This technology future-proofing in combination with durability gives this antenna a projected life of many years.
