Champion of Maritime Award
In September Rep. Peter King (R – NY) received the 2013 Champion of Maritime Award from the American Maritime Partnership (AMP) a group representing the domestic maritime industry in New York and across the U.S.
During his time in Congress Rep. King has been an outspoken advocate for a robust domestic maritime industry.
AMP provides the annual award to recognize an individual who has displayed extraordinary dedication to and consistent support for the American maritime industry.
As a member and former chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee Rep. King represents the voices of New York’s Second Congressional District which is home to hundreds of high quality maritime jobs that are responsible for more than $38 million in economic activity.

Tideland Signal appointed MT Caspian to represent its range of marine navigation aids in Azerbaijan Kazakhstan and Georgia. Based in Baku Azerbaijan Caspian will supply and support the entire product range and the company is also setting up a service and repair center with factory-trained technicians qualified to deal with every aspect of Tideland equipment. Caspian is part of the Marine Technics group based in St. Petersburg Russia which serves the offshore oil and gas market and ports and harbors around the Caspian Sea.
Arcadis
Curt Cramer took on the role of global director of performance excellence at Arcadis US on November 1. The position is a newly-created one this year.
John Hensley will succeed Cramer in his role as president of the Environment Division of ARCADIS US also on November 1.
Cramer was formerly director of operations for the Environment Division and also the U.S. representative to the Global Business Line team for Environment. He was also director of the Client Development and Technical Knowledge and Innovation groups for the U.S. Environment Division. He has been with Arcadis US since 1988. He is a Certified Professional Geologist and a member of the Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers and the American Institute of Professional Geologists. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Allegheny College.
John Hensley was formerly director of Operations Design and Construction in the Water Division and before that director of operations ARCADIS US Water and for the Infrastructure Division. He has also been active in business development positions within ARCADIS. Hensley has been with ARCADIS since 1985 and is a licensed professional engineer in five states. He holds Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Kennesaw State University.

Navigator Award
Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood accepted the 2013 WTS Navigator Award in September – the first ever awarded by WTS International. The Navigator Award was created by WTS the association for building the future of transportation through the global advancement of women to recognize the achievements of an individual or organization for extraordinary efforts to attract retain and advance women in the transportation industry.
LaHood has supported WTS International’s mission and his efforts have set the gender diversity issue in the transportation industry on an accelerated path. One of these efforts is WTS International’s Transportation YOU program. The program is joint effort of WTS and the Department of Transportation that led to LaHood’s signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2010 to create programs that encourage girls aged 13 – 17 to pursue an academic path that leads to a career in transportation.
APWA Board of Directors
The American Public Works Association (APWA) has announced the new and re-elected 2013-2014 board of directors. Serving as president for a one-year term Ed Gottko PWLF of Westfield New Jersey will lead the organization. Gottko is adjunct professor at colleges in New York and New Jersey.
New to the Board is Chuck Williams PWLF director of municipal services for the City of Lenexa Kansas. Members re-elected to the APWA Board of Directors include Richard Stinson PWLF director of public works Town of Wakefield Massachusetts; Brian R. Usher PWLF director of public works for the City of Largo Florida director-at-large fleet and facilities management; Harry L. Weed II PWLF superintendent of public works Village of Rockville Centre New York; Linda Petelka B.Sc. PWLF of Load Covering Solution Burlington Ontario Canada; and Ronald J. Calkins P.E. PWLF public works director (retired) City of Ventura California.
Moffatt & Nichol
James Beaver has joined Moffatt & Nichol’s London England office as the director of marina commercial services for the company’s urban waterfronts and marinas practice.
Beaver previously the chief operating officer and operations director at Camper & Nicholsons Marinas has more than 24 years of experience with marina operations new development redevelopment financing and due diligence. He also has extensive experience in the development and letting of marina related real estate.

In previous roles Beaver was a leading member of the senior management team responsible for the development of a 600 berth marina and dry stack operation in Portland Dorset U. K. which was the host venue for the sailing events for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He also played a managing role in the redevelopment and property construction at East Cowes Marina in Isle of Wight U. K. More recently Beaver headed the senior management team in the collaborations with Yas Marina home to the Abu Dhabi Formula 1TM Grand Prix.
Jim Riedel
Global Diving & Salvage Inc.
Jim Riedel joined the Pacific Northwest division of Global Diving & Salvage Inc. based out of the Seattle Washington corporate office. Riedel will assist in the management of existing preventive booming operations as well as the pursuit of additional opportunities in the Puget Sound and surrounding areas.
Riedel brings with him more than 17 years in the environmental services industry at National Response Corporation (NRC). From 1995 to 2003 he was the general manager of the West Coast region where he was responsible for the regulatory interface and the establishment and maintenance of a subcontractor network that extended throughout the West Coast. In 2003 with the addition of Foss Environmental to NRC Riedel became the PNW region general manager charged with business development and client maintenance and responsible for more of the day-to-day operations of preventative booming operations.
