Dalles Navigation Lock to Re-Open on Thursday

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers alerts mariners that it will reopen The Dalles navigation lock Thursday May 26 at 5 p.m. after completing repairs to a gearbox that operates the mechanism for opening and closing the north leaf of the downstream gate.

The lock closure was shorter than originally announced because damage to the bearings gears and shafts was less than anticipated. A full assessment could not be performed until the gearbox was opened drained disassembled and cleaned.
