Lagan River Project Underway in Belfast
Graham Construction of Northern Ireland has been awarded a £2.7m (US$4.3 million) contract to dredge the River Lagan in Belfast. The contracting authority is the Department for Social Development for Northern Ireland.
The work will take place along the length of the impounded River Lagan from Stranmillis Weir to the Lagan Weir–approximately 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles).
Dredged material will be transferred in scows to a seagoing barge berthed in the vicinity of the Lagan Weir which will transfer material to a placement site in the Irish Sea.
The project was scheduled to begin on October 1 and must be completed by March 31 2011 in time for the salmon migration season.
