VAN OORD SIGNS CONTRACT WITH PORTO CENTRAL
Porto Central and Van Oord signed a contract in October to develop and build the Por-to Central in the city of Presidente Kennedy in the southern region of the Espírito Santo state in Brazil. Porto Central which is also the homonymous name for the multi-purpose private industrial port complex is a Brazilian joint-venture (JV) between the Rotterdam port and TPK Logística. Under the terms of the deal Porto Central and Van Oord will work together through an integrated team which is expected to perform a series of activities from designing the initial concept of the project to building and then operating the port. The Espírito do Santo state Porto Central complex should serve a number of industries including the oil and gas energy agribulk mining and the offshore segments. The BRL 5 billion project should have a 25-meter (about 82-foot) depth being able to receive Vale’s very large ore carriers VLOCs.
