ILLEGAL DREDGES DESTROYED IN COLOMBIA
In November 2016 the Colombian Army along with the country’s Navy and the Jungle Brigade destroyed five dredges that were illegally used to extract mineral resources from the Caquetá River according to local newspaper La Nación. The joint Colombian forces found large amounts of chemicals specially mercury which are said to be polluting the local rivers Pedrera Caquetá as well as Co-lombia’s Amazonas River. The illegal vessels were mainly used to extract gold according to Colombian media.
