Obituary: Pamela Weiss
Pamela Weiss of St. Louis, Mo., recently retired logistics specialist, died January 14 of cancer. She was 63.
She began her long career in the river industry working in the mailroom of The Valley Line when she was 17 and in school. She eventually hired on at The Valley Line full time through the mid-1970s as a dispatcher—at a time when dispatchers were predominant
ly male—before transitioning to Peavey Barge Lines, where she gained more experience in dispatching, grain freight sales and customer service. In 2000, she became manager of logistics for Memco Barge Line and continued in that capacity through Memco’s sale to AEP. When American Commercial Barge Line bought AEP in 2015, she moved to Jeffersonville, Ind.
Her 45-plus-year career was characterized by a singular enthusiasm, associates remarked. “She was passionate about the barge industry,” one said. She retired in 2018.
