Mississippi River Commission Announces High-Water Tour
The Mississippi River Commission (MRC) will hold four public meetings in March and April during its annual high-water inspection trip on the mv. Mississippi.
The hearings welcome residents, stakeholders and other community members to present their views, share ideas and ask questions about the Mississippi River system. Attendees will hear directly from commission members, as well as a summary report from Maj. Gen. Kimberly Peeples, president of the Mississippi River Commission and commander of the Mississippi Valley Division, on national and regional issues affecting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, commission programs and other projects.
The Mississippi River Commission will make four stops for its high-water inspection trip. The first meeting will be held March 31 at Park Landing in Tiptonville, Tenn., followed by an April 1 meeting at Helena Marine Service in Helena, Tenn. The commission will stop in Lake Providence, La., April 2 at Lake Providence Port, before concluding the tour April 4 in New Orleans at the New Orleans Engineer District dock on the Mississippi River.
All meetings begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.
The MRC represents the entire Mississippi River and is composed of seven members, each nominated by the president of the United States and vetted by the Senate.
