Brennan Marine Acquires Matteson Marine Assets

Brennan Marine, Inc., an affiliate of J.F. Brennan Company, has expanded its presence along the Upper Mississippi, announcing March 11 that it has acquired the assets of Matteson Marine Service, Inc.

“The integration of six more vessels and a talented workforce with Brennan’s technology-forward operations will provide our customers with the best features of both organizations,” said Mark Binsfeld, Brennan’s vice president of business development. “The acquisition allows us to expand our marine services portfolio, including expanding fleeting, barge cleaning and repair services.

Both Brennan and Matteson have been part of the river industry for more than 50 years. Like Brennan, Matteson originally provided dredging services in addition to fleeting. However, after Matteson transitioned out of dredging and shifted its focus to building high-quality rental barges, Brennan became a regular customer, Binsfeld said.

“In that sense, we’ve worked alongside each other for many years, developing a strong and mutually beneficial partnership,” he said.

Binsfeld said previous customers of Matteson Marine can expect a seamless transition “with the same high-quality service they have come to rely on.”

“Brennan Marine is committed to maintaining the strong customer relationships Matteson has built over the years while also bringing additional resources and expertise to enhance service offerings,” he said. “We aim to make this transition as smooth as possible while exploring new opportunities to improve and grow our services.

Matteson Marine’s history dates back to 1975. The company grew from dredging and marine construction into harbor services. Matteson’s fleet, which operates from Lock 17 in New Boston, Ill., to Burlington, Iowa, will be integrated into Brennan Marine’s operations.

Brennan Marine has already begun the transition process and is working closely with both local officials and industry partners. The company has specialized in harbor management, fleeting and towing services along the inland waterways since 1984.
