Waterways Council Inc. (WCI) has presented its 21st annual Leadership Service Award to U.S. Rep. James Comer of Kentucky (R-Ky.).

Comer received the award February 5 “for his steadfast, continued leadership on inland waterways and port issues,” according to a news release from Comer’s office.

The release also notes that Kentucky’s 1,590 miles of rivers “are vital to the transportation of nearly 79 million tons of freight, valued at over $4 billion, and these waterways provide a safe and efficient way to transport essential commodities that Americans need.”

Comer represents Kentucky’s first Congressional district, including all of far western Kentucky.
