ACBL Senior Angels Program Spreads Holiday Cheer

For more than 35 years, an American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) holiday tradition has brought joy to senior adults living in southern Indiana. Through the company’s Senior Angels program, ACBL team members spend their time and resources to ensure that seniors in assisted living facilities in the region feel the warmth of the holiday season.

“What we’re doing is shopping and bringing a little bit of joy to those residents,” said Sarah Looper, ACBL account manager-liquids division. “Some of these residents have no family, very little income, maybe they’re rehabbing and their family is out of state. To bring just a little bit of happiness to these people, it makes a huge difference.”

This year through the Senior Angels program, ACBL employees blessed more than 90 senior adults at both Hillcrest Village in Jeffersonville and Riverview Village in Clarksville by providing thoughtful Christmas gifts. The program’s mission is simple yet impactful: to make sure seniors have presents to open on Christmas morning, bringing smiles and spreading holiday cheer.

A group from ACBL gathered gifts and delivered them to each facility before Christmas Day.

“When we finally got to the facility to deliver all of the gifts, the workers there were just so surprised at the amount of gifts that we had and the generosity,” Looper said. “The people there were going to have an amazing Christmas.”

Event organizers at ACBL are already planning for next year, with hopes to grow the program even further.
