Corps To Host Meeting On Lock 25 Expansion

The St. Louis Engineer District will host a meeting October 29 in Winfield, Mo., to provide information on the new 1,200-foot lock chamber at Lock and Dam 25 near Winfield. The meeting will be held at Winfield City Hall, 51 Harry’s Way in Winfield. The meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Formal presentations will begin at 5 p.m., followed by time for questions and discussion with project team members.

The St. Louis District and the Inland Navigation Design Center (INDC) are in the process of completing the design for the new 1,200-foot lock chamber which will expand the existing Lock and Dam 25. The project team will discuss project development and future construction, with the project nearing the 65 percent design point.

Feedback, comments and questions from community members are welcome. According to the Corps, the October 29 meeting will be the first of many during the design and construction of the project.

The new chamber at Lock and Dam 25, authorized through the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program, or NESP, will improve navigational efficiency through the lock. According to the Corps, the new chamber is expected to cut locking time in half and reduce delays.
