Conrad Shipyard Celebrates AEU Safety Award
When American Equity Underwriters (AEU) announced the recipients for its 2023 AEU Safety Award, given annually to the American Longshore Mutual Association members with the most effective safety programs, one of the repeat honorees was Morgan City, La.-based Conrad Shipyard.
Besides being recognized for its safety program in 2023, Conrad also received an AEU Safety Award in 2021, 2018 and 2013.
“This prestigious award is a direct reflection of our company’s culture and Goal Zero journey,” said Johnny Conrad, CEO of Conrad Shipyard. “It is attributable to the hard work and dedication of our employees who take great pride in preserving our core values, with safety being of the utmost importance.”
Award winners are determined based on the lack of frequency and severity of workers’ compensation incidents for the prior calendar year, along with safety-related metrics set by AEU’s loss control team.
“Receiving the AEU Safety Award illustrates a member’s excellence in safety,” said Jimmy Burgin, AEU’s senior vice president and director of loss control. “This achievement speaks volumes about the steadfast dedication of every employee within an organization. From supervisors to frontline personnel, their tireless efforts in maintaining a top-tier safety program truly set them apart in the maritime industry.”
Founded in 1948 by John Parker Conrad Sr. in Morgan City, Conrad Shipyard designs, builds and overhauls barges, dredges and dredge support equipment, towboats, tugboats, liftboats and offshore supply vessels. The company operates five shipyards in southern Louisiana and Texas.
