Brandon Road Project Meetings Set For December 5
Two meetings, one for industry and one for the public, are planned December 5 regarding the Brandon Road Interbasin Project.
The complex and innovative ecosystem restoration project is being constructed to prevent the movement of aquatic nuisance species from the Illinois Waterway into the Great Lakes watershed. The project will be largely constructed in the downstream approach channel to the Brandon Road Lock with potential disruption to navigation and public access/use areas.
Industry professionals are invited from noon to 3 p.m. for Industry Day at Clarion Hotel & Convention Center Joliet, 411 S. Larkin Avenue, Building A, Joliet, IL, 60436.
The event is an opportunity for contractors, architectural engineering firms, navigation industry representatives and other interested parties to learn more about the project. This session will focus primarily on the complexities, scope and schedule for the first increments of construction (2024-26). This will include Increment I-A (leading edge deterrents) and Increment I-B (site preparation and approach channel bedrock removal). Both construction contracts are planned to be solicited for award in 2024.
A draft Request for Proposals (RFP) with the full plans and specifications for Increment I-A was to be posted to the “SAM.GOV” website by November 17.
The Rock Island District also planned to share the latest scoping information and schedule for the A&E Service Design Contract for the greater project that is anticipated to be awarded by summer 2024.
Registration for the Brandon Road Interbasin Project Industry Day is required for all attendees. Businesses are also encouraged to email a capability statement to Troy Robbins at troy.a.robbins@usace.army.mil so that the Corps may gain a better understanding of business capabilities. A virtual option is also available.
For the public, an open house will be held in two sessions, one from 4 to 5:30 and one from 5:30 to 7 p.m., both also December 5 at the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center in Joliet.
The sessions are designed to review and discuss the detailed designs and construction strategies for the Brandon Road Interbasin Project.
The public is welcome to attend either session or a virtual option is available for those unable to attend in person. During the event, members of the project team will provide a short overview presentation followed by an opportunity for public comment.
Site tours of the project site will be available for both groups December 6 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The address is 800 Brandon Road, Joliet, IL 60436. The parking area is on the left descending bank peninsula, east side of approach channel, just over the lift bridge on south side of Brandon Road.
