Letter: Veterans And Industry
This is to commend your editorial recognizing and saluting the maritime industry’s interconnectedness with numerous military veterans (Veterans Power The Inland Waterways, WJ November 14). The Port of Paducah certainly fits into that category in a big way. There have been at least four past Marine Safety Unit commanders who retired here and transferred their talents to the barge industry. There have been numerous ex-Coast Guard members who have likewise done the same. In addition, the lesser known three Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotillas located in this region are flooded with military veterans of all branches, including yours truly.
People say “Thank you for your service.” I say “Thank you for this recognition of the vast ex-military component of the barge and towing industry.”
