Wheelhouse Electronics Opens Houston Office
Wheelhouse Electronics Inc., the well-known marine electronics firm serving the Lower Mississippi River and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from locations in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Greenville, Miss., has opened an office in Houston, Texas. The company also recently celebrated its 40th year in business. Wheelhouse Electronics was founded in 1982 by Paul Mustacchia, who ran it for 36 years before selling it to its current owner, Steve Burke.
Wheelhouse opened its Houston office October 31. Located at 14347 East Freeway (Houston, Texas 77015), the 1,500-square-foot warehouse is within minutes of Channelview, Texas, and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. “It is fully stocked,” said Burke, “and is staffed by Wheelhouse technicians who are on call around the clock.” The phone number is 832-389-2656. Wheelhouse has 13 technicians in total.
Speaking of the anniversary, Burke said, “I hope to carry on the excellent reputation that Paul has built over the years.” Burke bought Wheelhouse Electronics in 2018.
A Gulf War veteran, Burke was an Army communications expert and then a communications consultant afterwards, mostly in the blue-water trade. Of his 18 years of communications experience before he bought Wheelhouse Electronics, 13 were in the maritime field, he said, mostly with Blue Tide Communications, calling on oil and gas companies out of Broussard, La.
It was while he was with Blue Tide that he made a cold call on Wheelhouse Electronics and then saw on the internet that the company was for sale. He didn’t change the name because it was known then from one end of the system to the other. “And I hope that I have been successful in furthering that,” Burke said.
