Obituary: Charles E. Robers
Charles E. Robers, 97, former owner of Robers Dredging Inc., died July 15.
After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated with a degree in economics. He joined the family dredging and marine construction firm and took over when his father, founder Ferd Robers, retired. In 1990, Charles Robers himself retired and sold the dredging equipment, mostly to J.F. Brennan Company. The remainder of the firm was renamed F.J. Robers Company and today operates a major bulk terminal at Upper Mississippi River Mile 698.
