Low Water Temporarily Closes Dorena-Hickman Ferry
The Dorena-Hickman Ferry at Mississippi Mile 922.0 has been closed since July 2 due to low water.
The low water has blocked access to the landing near Dorena, Mo. The ferry connects that landing with one in Hickman, Ky.
The ferry service continued to reassess water levels on a daily basis.
The ferry had previously excluded vehicles pulling trailers and tractor-trailer rigs in an attempt to remain in operation as long as possible. It had closed to all traffic for three days in late June because of sediment blocking the Missouri landing.
When open, the ferry operates on a Thursday through Monday summer schedule but is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays until the service can hire an additional pilot with a passenger-endorsed license.
Motorists may check on the ferry’s operating status by calling 731-693-0210.
