Lock Closures Scheduled On MKARNS
Mariners on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (MKARNS) in the Tulsa Engineer District will experience lock closures from April 26 through May 18.
A contractor will be conducting diving operations at all five locks from W.D. Mayo Lock and Dam No. 14 to Newt Graham Lock and Dam No. 18.
When diving crews perform underwater inspections at each lock, that lock will be closed for eight hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Work will take place on weekdays; there is currently no plan to work on the weekends.
The tentative schedule of closures is as follows:
W.D. Mayo Lock and Dam No. 14: April 26–29
Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam No. 15: May 2–5
Webbers Falls Lock and Dam No. 16: May 6–May 11
Chouteau Lock and Dam No. 17: May 12–May 16
Newt Graham Lock and Dam No. 18: May 13–18
Navigation traffic is asked to plan accordingly around the daily closures.
The Tulsa District notes that there are uncertainties in the amount of time the contractor needs to complete the work as scheduled, and unforeseen issues could require additional time. The tentative schedule is subject to change, and mariners are advised to stay up to date with the latest information; further navigation notices will be released with any updates and changes. Waterway users are asked to check with the lock of interest for the latest information.
For more information on the closures at Locks 14, 15 and 16, contact Robert Steiner, navigation operation manager, at 918-550-9026; or Jacob Simpson, navigation field engineer, 918-430-4783. For more information on the closures at Locks 17 and 18, contact Brad Johnson, navigation operation manager, 918-550-9026; or Jacob Simpson, navigation field engineer, 918-430-4783.
Little Rock District
Almost simultaneously with the first of the Tulsa District lock closures, two locks in the Little Rock Engineer District will have 12-hour closures.
Toad Suck Ferry Lock No. 8 at Mile 155.9 will be closed to navigation traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 26, while Arthur V. Ormond Lock No. 9, Mile 176.9, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 27.
These closures are to work on sections of hydraulic lines associated with the operation of the lock miter gates. If the work is completed ahead of schedule, the locks will reopen at that time, the district said; however, unforeseen problems could require additional time.
