Baudouin Donates Marine Engines To Technical College

France-based Moteurs Baudouin and its U.S. distributor, Motor Services Hugo Stamp (MSHS) Group, have teamed up with Fletcher Technical Community College in Houma, La., to provide students in the school’s marine diesel engine technician program with vital hands-on experience, thanks to four donated Baudouin marine diesel engines.

MSHS Group donated the four 6M26.3 Baudouin engines, which are the same engines being installed in new vessels at four southeast Louisiana shipyards.

“Operations of this size incorporate a sizable workforce of highly-skilled and paid trade jobs,” MSHS Group territory manager Dual Yelverton said in a statement. “The value to students of being able to work on these engines is much more than just nominal. These engines will enable them to expand their knowledge of innovators in the industry in terms of electronic engine components, hybrid systems and alternative fuels.”

According to MSHS Group, Baudouin, while a relative newcomer in the United States, is nonetheless gaining a foothold, thanks to the engine’s efficiency and emissions compliance. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based MSHS Group is currently expanding its dealer network in order to better market Baudouin’s marine engines for new-build and repower projects. Trade school partnerships, MSHS Group said, will continue to be a central part of Baudouin’s growth in the U.S. market.

“As an engine manufacturer, our investment in STEM projects is a key aspect of our strategy,” said Mehdi Kebaili, Baudouin’s sales director for the Americas. “Baudouin is thrilled to be participating in this exciting initiative to shape the next generation of maritime engineers.’’

In the United States, Baudouin is offering 16-liter and 32-liter displacement engines rated at 450-815 hp. and 1,100-1,650 hp., respectively. The company also offers generator sets producing up to 1 mW.
