Kentucky Lock Adds Helper Boat Night Shift
A second helper boat will add a night shift on certain nights to help reduce the upbound queue at Kentucky Lock.
The Nashville Engineer District announced in a Navigation Notice July 22 that the first night shift was planned for July 23, resulting in 36 hours of continuous service for the second helper boat. The next shift was planned for July 27. From that point forward, the night shift for the second helper boat will be two nights on and two nights off until services are no longer needed or the ongoing guard cell construction is complete, expected to be by early September, according to the Corps.
The shift is being added because of both the impacts of construction on lockage efficiency at Kentucky Lock as well as the current and upcoming closures at Barkley Lock.
