Steven L. Beal, 46, CEO of National Railway Equipment (NRE), died July 11 at his home in Ladue, Mo. NRE, a global manufacturer in the rail, marine and power industries, is the world’s largest independent locomotive supplier. It is the parent of NRE Power Systems, a marine and industrial engine supplier based in Houma, La.

Beal had been in the railroad industry since the age of 12, learning the business from his father, Lawrence, who founded NRE in 1984. He assumed the leadership of the company when Lawrence died in 2010.
