Permit Sought For Barge Fleet To Be Extended

The Carline Company has applied to the New Orleans Engineer District for a permit to extend its barge fleet facility near Donaldsonville, La. The site is located on the right descending bank of the Mississippi River at Mile 168.

The proposed work involves installing and maintaining monopole dolphins to 16 existing barge fleet tiers. No dredging or fill will be required for the installation of the structures. No special aquatic sites will be affected, and no mitigation is anticipated.

Some of the work was completed prior to obtaining a permit and was in violation of Section 301 of the Clean Water Act; all legal issues concerning the unauthorized work has been deferred.
