Obituary: John “Jack” Geary
John “Jack” Geary, 92, of Wilmington, Ohio, former president of Midland Enterprises, died April 10.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nautical sciences from Massachusetts Maritime Academy—and later a bachelor’s in accounting from Boston University and an MBA from Harvard—he held a number of executive positions, including Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates in Boston; assistant to the president for The Ohio River Company, Cincinnati; vice president-operations for Ohio River Company and Midland Enterprises; and finally, from 1974–1988, president of Ohio River Company/Midland.
He served on the board of directors of The American Waterways Operators, and was a member of the American Inland Waterways Committee, Water Transport Association, Propeller Club of the United States, American Bureau of Shipping, Boston Marine Society and the National Coal Council, among others.
