The James V. Swift Medal and the Donald T. Wright Award were presented in a ceremony April 12 at the Herman T. Pott National Inland Waterways Library, a special collection of the St. Louis Mercantile Library Association. From left are Dan and Connie Burkhardt, who wrote Growing Up with the River: Nine Generations on the Missouri, in collaboration with artist Bryan Haynes; H. Nelson Spencer, Waterways Journal chairman and chairman of the Herman T. Pott Library; and Dr. Carl E. Kramer, who wrote Rivers of Time, A History of American Commercial Lines, 1915-2015, in collaboration with Paul Plaschke. The awards are presented biennally to writers who have made a significant contribution to maritime literature.
