Greater Houston Port Bureau Announces 2019 Maritime Leader Of The Year
The Greater Houston Port Bureau has named Jim Black, president and CEO of Moran Shipping Agencies Inc., as the recipient of the bureau’s 2019 Maritime Leader of the Year award. The Greater Houston Port Bureau will honor Black at its annual maritime dinner event, scheduled for August 17.
Black moved to Houston some 44 years ago in 1975 to lead the Moran organization’s expansion into the Houston market. Under Black’s leadership as both CEO and owner, Moran Shipping Agencies has grown to be the largest independent steamship agency in North America.
In addition to his duties at Moran Shipping Agencies, Black also serves on the Greater Houston Port Bureau’s board of directors. He has also held positions on other boards, including the St. Pius X High School Foundation, the West Gulf Maritime Association and the Association of Shipbrokers and Agents. In 2014, the St. Pius X High School Foundation honored Black and his wife, Beth, with its Del Sarto Humanitarian Award.
“The Port Bureau is honored to name Jim Black the 2019 Maritime Leader of the Year to recognize his commitment to the Houston maritime industry and his community for over 40 years,” said Vinny Pilegge, chairman of the Greater Houston Port Bureau and president of Manchester Terminal.
Proceeds from the dinner, which draws more than 700 attendees, go to support the Port Bureau’s regional maritime advocacy efforts. For registration or sponsorship information, contact the Greater Houston Port Bureau at 713-678-4300.
