Sea School recently announced the addition of a facility in Toledo, Ohio.
The facility is the result of a joint effort between Sea School and the Maritime Academy of Toledo, and will occupy the former Star Center Union school.
Sea School is the largest privately held maritime training organization in the United States. Nearly half of all U.S. Coast Guard license holders received their training from the organization, Sea School officials said.
The curriculum consists of more than 50 courses approved by the Coast Guard and designed to meet tough U.S. and international standards for maritime education.
The school plans to offer a year-round schedule of courses at the new Toledo facility, including basic and advanced firefighting; basic safety training; Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS); Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (APRA); radar; able seaman / able seafarer deck; apprentice mate steersman; towing officer assessment record (TOAR); Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS); terrestrial navigation; qualified member of the engineering department; tankerman; rating forming part of the navigation watch; search and rescue; lifeboat; operator of uninspected passenger vessels; master and mate; and master of towing, among others.
The new facility is located on the southwest portion of Lake Erie on the Maumee River. The address is 1 Maritime Plaza, Toledo, Ohio 43604.
Sea School has a longstanding relationship with the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center. Sea School’s staff has received the opportunity to participate in numerous government think tanks, which help Coast Guard to better understand the issues surrounding safe maritime transportation and to write more efficient regulations affecting maritime transportation. Collectively, Sea School’s instructors have hundreds of years of experience.
With the addition of the new facility, Sea School now has offices in the following cities: Freeport, N.Y.; Charleston, S.C.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Panama City, Fla.; Mobile, Ala.; St. Petersburg, Fla. (company headquarters); and Toledo.
