Ohio Dredged Material Summit to be Held October 15

The 2018 Ohio Dredged Material Summit will be held at Lorain County Community College on October 15. The summit will bring together experts in brownfields, brick and clay products; transportation and logistics; economic development; planning; mining; habitat restoration and more to discuss Ohio’s dredge strategy, sediment profiling and beneficial use rules.

Interactive breakout sessions include:

• Dredge to Habitat – discussion of the benefits of dredge material to improve fish and wildlife habitat, enhance recreation and improve water quality.
• Dredge to Marketable Soil – discussion of how dredge material can be converted into a marketable product.
• Dredge to Farmland – discussion of dredge material repurposes to enhance near-lake farmland.

The summit is a follow up to Ohio’s 2016 Digging Up Ideas workshop that was held to help identify alternatives for dredged material and barriers for use. That event provided the state, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, businesses and local stakeholders with many ideas that have since been pursued.
