Emergency Dredging Completed at Palm Beach Harbor
Emergency dredging of the entrance channel to Palm Beach Harbor in Florida took just three days but was crucial to maintain access into the port. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District awarded a $580,600 contract to Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Company to remove approximately 16,000 cubic yards of sand. Cashman used its dredge Atchafalaya to remove shoaled material from the federal navigation channel and deposit it at a near-shore disposal area south of the entrance channel. The survey vessel Survey 2 supported the dredge. The channel was dredged to a depth of 35 feet plus 2 feet allowable overdepth. Work began June 17 and was completed June 19.
