Bollinger, Inland Shipyards Receive SCA Safety Awards

Bollinger Shipyards, Lockport, La., was presented the 2017 “Award for Excellence in Safety” for the 13th consecutive year by the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) on May 17 during SCA’s Annual General Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C.

SCA, the national association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, honors companies with annual safety awards for enhancement of operations and promotion of safety and accident prevention.

“Bollinger Shipyards is very pleased to have earned the SCA Award for Excellence in Safety for the 13th consecutive year,” said Ben Bordelon, president and CEO of Bollinger. “This recognition of exceptional safety performance is realized from a commitment at the highest level and the continued focus of Bollinger employees on workplace safety.  Bollinger remains steadfast in establishing a culture of positive and focused work habits.”

Additional Award Winners

Other inland shipyards to receive the award included BAE Systems SSY Mobile and Southwest Shipyard L.P. The 2017 SCA Award for Improvement in Safety, a separate award, was given to invidual companies that reduced their total recordable incident rate by 10 precent or more. Those companies that received the award in the inland marine industry included BAE Systems SSY Mobile, Campbell Transportation Company, Colonna’s Shipyard Inc., Detyens Shipyard Inc. and Southwest Shipyard L.P.

SCA members constitute the shipyard industrial base that builds, repairs, maintains and modernizes U.S. Navy ships and craft, U.S. Coast Guard vessels of all sizes, as well as vessels for other U.S. government agencies. In addition, SCA members build, repair and service America’s fleet of commercial vessels.
