BOSKALIS WINS CONTRACT FOR LONG-TERM MIDDLE EASTERN MAINTENANCE DREDGING WORKS
Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and a Cypriot partner were awarded a contract for long term maintenance dredging works in the Middle East on October 31 2017. Boskalis and its partner will develop and build an electrical cutter suction dredge for these works. The work will begin shortly after the vessel is commissioned in 2019. The annual revenue amounts to approximately 25 million euros (US$29 million) over an eleven-year period.
The cutter suction dredge will be fully electrically powered through an onshore 33kV powerline connection. The 100-meter-long (328-foot) shallow water vessel will have a capacity of 1000 kW allowing it to pump the dredged material over a distance of 7.5 kilometers (4.66 miles). The investment will be fully recovered within the contract. The dredge will be transferred to the client at the end of the contract duration.
