Maintenance Dredging of Tampa and St. Petersburg Harbors Underway

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District awarded $4662432 to Orion Marine Construction of Tampa Florida for Tampa Harbor and St. Petersburg Harbor maintenance dredging.

While the work is being done as part of typical maintenance needs it has been partially funded with Hurricane Matthew Supplemental Operations and Maintenance funds as the area was impacted by 2016 Hurricane Matthew. The U.S. Coast Guard Section (USCG) St. Petersburg played a role in the St. Petersburg Harbor section of the project receiving funds as the USCG considers the channel crucial to its mission. St. Petersburg Harbor was last dredged in 2001.

The dredge Lima is being used to remove shoal material from Tampa Harbor Hillsborough Bay Ybor Channel Upper and Lower Sparkman Port Sutton East Bay and St. Petersburg. A total of approximately 200000 cubic yards of material will be dredged and placed in a permitted disposal area in Tampa Bay.
Work began at the end of October and should be completed by May 2018.
