Jan De Nul Group Launches New Cutter Dredge Willem Van Rubroeck

In late August 2017 at the Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia Jan De Nul released the self-propelled cutter suction dredge Willem van Rubroeck into the water. The delivery of the vessel will take place in 2018. The vessel is 151.3 meters long (about 496 feet) with a width of 36 meters (about 118 feet) and can achieve a speed of 12 knots. It has an installed power of 40975 kW making it the world’s most powerful cutter dredger. 
It has two retractable thrusters with a total power of 6000 kW and three dredging pumps with a total power of 25500 kW two of which are located in the pump room and one in the cutter ladder. The CSD Willem van Rubroeck will have a cutter power of 8500 kW and be able to dredge compact sand clay and rocks up to 45 meters (about 147 feet) deep. The dredging operations controlled from a central station are almost completely automated. The vessel will have comfortable accommodations for 67 crew members.
