AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS WINS EPA CONTRACT

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Great Lakes National Program office contracted with Affiliated Researchers to provide sediment sampling and surveying at the Milwaukee River Area of Concern.

The project part of the Great Lakes Legacy Act was intended to define the extent of soil contamination in the river. Affiliated Researchers located and staked locations for sediment-core drilling by using an RTK-GPS base station and two RTK-GPS rover systems. It then used a 3-inch diameter core-tube and accompanying equipment to conduct the sampling.

Affiliated Researchers also completed a bathymetric survey to determine the volume of sediment accumulation in the canal and forebay of a nuclear power station.

A shallow-water survey boat hydrographic survey equipment dual frequency single-beam echo sounder system and hydrographic software were used to complete the project. Final deliverables included bathymetric contour drawings in DXF and PDF formats bathymetric data in XYZ point data file format and a summary report.

Both projects took place in February and March 2017.

Affiliated Researchers is based in Michigan with three other offices in Hawaii California and Georgia.
