On September 30 At Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s Allanton Florida Shipyard Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Celebrated the launch of a first-of-its-kind hopper dredge the 433-foot-long Ellis Island – the barge & Barge (ATB) suction hopper dredge was launched see Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Celebrates Launch of ATB Hopper Dredge for more information.

 The tug Douglas B. Mackie is designed to fit into this notch in the stern of the Ellis Island providing propulsion and maneuverability. 

 

With its first build since Liberty Island in 2001 GLDD said Liberty Island will the first of toher new dredges for the fleet.

 

The Ellis Island is 433 feet long and 92 feet high.
