CONSORTIUM FORMED TO EXPAND PORT OF KINGSTON

Jan De Nul’s subsidiary Sodraco SAS along with French-based Vinci Construction Grands Projets and EMCC formed a $147 million USD consortium to expand the Port of Kingston in Jamaica. According to Vinci the con-tract covers refurbishment reinforcement and upgrade to seismic standards of 1200 meters (about 3937 feet) of quays. Jan De Nul added dredging should also be performed at the port so its access channel could be deepened and the berths on the existing quay walls could be reinforced and renovated. The consortium was selected by shipping group CMA CGM which has owned the port concession since July 1 2016. Works at the port are expected to last 25 months the companies reported. The expanded port should increase the alongside depth of the quays allowing container ships of larger capacity to dock. As for the dredging activities Jan de Nul will use six vessels including its suction dredge Marco Polo as well as four other accompanying split barges and trailing suction hopper dredge Pedro Alvares Cabral.
