WEEKS MARINE PENSACOLA BEACH DREDGING COMPLETED

A $16 million beach renourishment project at Pensacola Beach was completed on August 22. Since June Weeks Marine crews pumped more than 1.6 million cubic yards of sand from the deep Gulf of Mexico onto eight miles of Pensacola beaches.

Escambia County loaned $8.5 million to the Santa Rosa Island Authority which paid for the renourishment project. A matching state grant covered the rest of the project costs.

Pensacola beach restoration happens about every 10 years.
