BUFFALO DISTRICT DREDGES ROCHESTER HARBOR

The Corps of Engineers Buffalo District began dredging at Rochester Harbor in New York on May 17 and continued through mid-June.

As part of the two-year $1722500 contract awarded to Luedtke Engineering Company a total of 210000 cubic yards of sediment was dredged from the federal navigation channel this year.

The contractor began working in the lower channel (between the piers). Once finished with the lower channel they moved to the up-per river in the area of the EssRoc dock and worked their way back down the Genesee River. 

 “We’re pleased to announce the dredging of Rochester Harbor which enables safe and efficient navigation for an important component of the Great Lakes Navigation System – the backbone of our nation’s industrial might” said LTC Karl Jansen USACE Buffalo District commander.  “Harbor infrastructure requires continuous reinvestment; I commend and appreciate the strong advocacy of government representatives who have secured funding to dredge this year and next year.  Rochester Harbor serves as a Critical Harbor of Refuge on Lake Ontario directly supports about 3680 jobs which produces $611 million in total business revenue.”
