JAN DE NUL’S CABLE LAYING VESSEL ISAAC NEWTON HEADS TO MARJAN OIL FIELD
On February 2 Jan De Nul (JDN) Group a provider of installation works for subsea cables and umbilicals for the oil and gas and renewable energy markets announced it will install two new power cables for Saudi Aramco at its Marjan Field offshore of Saudi Arabia in the Persian Gulf. The 115 kV subsea power and communication cables supplied by Nexans Norway are being transported to the Marjan Gas Oil Separation Plan (GOSP) project executed by McDermott Middle East Inc. McDermott International a provider of integrated engineering procurement construction and installation (EPCI) services for offshore and subsea field developments worldwide is headquartered in Houston.
The cables with a total cable weight of 8500 tonnes are being transported and installed in a single trip by JDN Group’s newest Cable Laying Vessel Isaac Newton. This vessel the latest addition to Jan De Nul Group’s fleet is the largest Cable Laying Vessel of its kind able to transport and install over 10000 tons of cable in a single trip. The Marjan GOSP project is the first project for the Isaac Newton.
In total in 2015 and 2016 JDN Group will install five new power cables for Aramco’s Marjan Field. At the Marjan Zuluf project€ executed by Saipem the JDN Group has already installed three power cables using its Cable Laying Vessel Willem de Vlamingh. From 2007 to 2013 Jan De Nul Group executed Aramco’s Manifa Field Causeway and Island Construction Project an area the size of Manhattan. JDN Group was in charge of the design and construction of the 25 oil drilling and production islands each with space for ten drilling wells. Also two water injection islands were designed and built. To connect these islands the contract included the design and construction of 41 km length of causeways including fourteen bridges.
