DEME SIGNS CONTRACTS FOR OFFSHORE WIND FARMS IN THE GERMAN NORTH SEA

At the end of March DEME announced that it will help develop MEG I offshore wind farm in partnership with Nordsee Offshore in the German North Sea. MEG I will be one of Germany’s largest offshore wind farms and is located in the German Bight some 45 kilo-meters (28 miles) north of Borkum. This 400 megawattsw (MW) project will provide renew-able energy to more than one million people and realizes a reduction of 1.5 million tons of CO2 emissions every year. DEME will participate in the further development of the wind farm until financial close. Afterwards DEME will be involved in the construction and maintenance of the wind farm and its long-term funding.

In addition DEME Group’s offshore marine engineering division GeoSea and Siemens have concluded an EPCI foundation contract for Hohe See offshore wind farm. DEME recently acquired the offshore assets and per-sonnel of its former German partner Hochtief Offshore Solutions. The Hohe See offshore wind farm (owned by EnBW) is situated about 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea. The project will cover an area of around 40 square kilometers (15.5 square miles) with water depths of up to 39 meters (128 feet). With a total installed capacity of 497 MW the Hohe See wind farm is currently the biggest planned offshore wind project in Germany.

GeoSea’s EPCI contract includes the de-sign engineering procurement fabrication and installation of 71 foundations consisting of a monopile and transition piece. The Hohe See offshore wind project preparatory phase will be taken care of by DEME specialist teams located in Bremen. DEME has previously participated in many other offshore wind farms in Germany such as Nordsee One Godewind EnBW Baltic II Borkum Riffgrund ‘1’ Amrumbank Alpha Ventus and Borkum West II.
