PANOLIN OFFERS NEW STERN TUBE LUBRICATING OPTIONS
To complement its Stella Maris environmentally acceptable stern tube lubricant Panolin introduced Stella Maris NRT for older vessels. The company’s stern tube lubricant is based on its 100 percent saturated synthetic ester technology which it says has proven to be the most robust and technically advanced lubrication option. In the design of the lubricant Panolin said it considered lubrication needs water ingress contamination/cleanliness heat and equipment compatibility. Panolin’s NRT is more compatible with older seals or more traditional seal materials Jared Mikacich sales and marketing manager at Panolin said. Fluid compatability with seals will prevent them from swelling shrinking or drying out. In most applications when using Stella Maris the seals should be replaced with newer bio-seals.
Panolin also has a line of EPA VGP-compliant grease including Biogrease EP 2 for capstans winches davits rudder shafts stabilizers and steering gear; Margrease EP 2 for a more aggressive water washout requirement and load protection; and Margrease EP 0 for all pressurized systems. Panolin noted that compatibility (ASTM 6185) with existing greases is important during any changeover period. Panolin’s products were tested via ASTM standards.
