PORT OF OAKLAND BEGINS MAINTENANCE DREDGING
The Port of Oakland continues maintenance dredging in 17 deepwater shipping berths. By November the port removed 185000 cubic yards of sediment and the $3.7 million project will maintain 50-foot depths at the port.
Dredging season is restricted to this time period to protect endangered fish and fowl. Sediment dredged from Oakland berths is being deposited at the Montezuma Wetlands on Suisun Bay. The 2400-acre marsh is being restored as a shorebird habitat.
