Hydroid Appoints New Managers
Hydroid Inc. a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime and manufacturer of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) announced organizational changes to its management team.
Libby Signell has been appointed to vice president of operations. Signell most recently program manager at Hydroid brings to her new position more than thirty years of engineering and program management experience. She previously worked at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Lockheed Martin. Signell holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Michigan and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Leading Hydroid’s extensive team of engineers will be Julie Ferland the company’s new vice president of engineering. Ferland comes to Hydroid from her most recent position as vice president and principal engineer at Maritime Applied Physics Corporation (MAPC). Ferland is a former US Navy officer and salvage diver. She is a Harvard University graduate with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Secretary Fox Names New Maritime Panel Members
In April the U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced the appointment of 10 new members to the Marine Transportation System National Advisory Council (MTSNAC). Established in 2010 MTSNAC is composed of leaders from commercial transportation firms trade associations state and local public entities labor organizations academics and environmental groups that advise the Secretary on policies to ensure that the U.S. Marine Transportation System is capable of responding to projected trade increases.
The new members are: Betty Sutton administrator Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC) Washington D.C.; William Cook Director Worldwide Logistics and Customs Chrysler Group LLC Auburn Hills Michigan; Wayne Darbeau president and CEO San Diego United Port District San Diego California; Gary Lee Moore interim executive director Port of Los Angeles Los Angeles California; Captain Lynn Korwatch executive director Marine Exchange of the San Francisco Bay Region San Francisco California; Charles Fabrikant executive chairman SEACOR Holdings Inc. “The Obama Administration is committed to ensuring that America’s ports and waterways are capable of meeting the growing demands of moving freight in the 21st century” Secretary Foxx said. “This advisory council will help guide us as we continue to invest in American transportation and in America’s future.”
Council members will serve two-year terms with no more than two consecutive term reappointments and approximately one-third of members’ terms of office shall expire every two years.
“This Council is an excellent example of a coordinated approach with the private sector” Acting Maritime Administrator Paul N. Jaenichen said. “Their expertise and insight inform key decisions as we work to spark growth and ensure the greater efficiency of our Marine Transportation System.”

Part of this expansion has involved the appointment of Michael Crawford CMG and Russell Corn to its newly formed Advisory Board.
Michael Crawford CMG has been an independent consultant specializing in strategic political risk in the Middle East since 2010. He served the British Government at home and overseas between 1981 and 2009 including in Yemen Egypt Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. During his career he worked on Middle East and South Asian politics counter-terrorism counter-proliferation and global security issues.
Russell Corn is a former UK Special Forces officer with extensive commercial experience in the risk management sector. Having begun his career as the Group Operational Security Manager at Prudential Plc he left to build the UK and European operations of Diligence Inc. In 2011 Russell established Fulcrum Consulting Ltd. which advises corporate and private clients in matters relating to counter-party risk political risk business intelligence and security.
Mary Landrieu chairwoman of the U.S. Senate committee on Energy and Natural Resources
Landrieu Confirmed as Committee Chairwoman
In February U.S. Senate Democratic Caucus confirmed Senator Mary Landrieu as chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. National and local conservation organizations committed to Mississippi River Delta restoration – Environmental Defense Fund National Wildlife Federation National Audubon Society Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana – issued the following statement:
“We are pleased to welcome Senator Mary Landrieu as the new chairwoman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Senator Landrieu has proven herself to be a champion for restoration of the Mississippi River Delta as well as an effective legislator notably demonstrated by her leadership in crafting and passing the bipartisan RESTORE Act which benefits the entire Gulf Coast. The law ensures that Clean Water Act fines from the 2010 BP Gulf oil disaster go back to the Gulf Coast states for restoration. This legislation would not have become law without Senator Landrieu’s tireless leadership and her ability to work across the aisle. In her new capacity as committee chairwoman we look forward to a continued partnership to advance both funding and implementation of Mississippi River Delta restoration.”

Global Diving Hires General Manager
Global Diving & Salvage Inc. announces the hiring of John Propeck as general manager for its Gulf Coast regional office located in Houston Texas. Propeck will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and operation of this region both administratively and operationally. He will lead the development of new and ongoing business opportunities within Global’s core service lines: offshore operations marine construction and casualty response.
Propeck brings with him more than fortyfive years of multi-faceted experience in the commercial diving and maritime industry. He began his career as a commercial diver logging over 1000 days in saturation. He has more than 20 years of program and project management experience including business development marketing sales purchasing and procurement management.
